A Two-Part Solution for Kake and Kipnuk Power Generation
At GSE we often say 90% of our job is logistics. The Kake and Kipnuk powerhouse modules are prime examples. In both communities, site logistics could not accommodate a module large enough for the required generation equipment. Therefore, in a first for rural Alaska power generation, GSE designed a double module with a shipping split that allowed delivery to the site in two pieces. Both modules will be fully assembled and tested in Anchorage, split for delivery, then re-assembled and commissioned on site.
The design keeps cost low by taking advantage of the availability of equipment and licensed specialty contractors in Anchorage.
Both modules will be in service in fall 2017.
